Leicester Cathedral Revealed

Leicester Cathedral is the mother church for the Diocese of Leicester and the seat of the Bishop of Leicester. King Richard III was reburied in the Cathedral in 2015 following the discovery of his remains in what was the friary of Greyfriars.

Project Summary

Through the Leicester Cathedral Revealed project, the cathedral aspires to be a ‘beating heart for the city and county’, with a new Heritage Learning Centre incorporating interpretation featuring people stories to support an inspiring narrative. Through the combination of restoration, architectural configuration, interpretation and activity planning, Leicester Cathedral Revealed will ensure the history of the cathedral is more accessibly physically, intellectually and spiritually. 

Messenger was awarded the contract for the demolition of the existing Song School and construction of the Heritage Learning Centre in the Cathedral Gardens. Re-ordering works to the main cathedral components including:

  • New flooring
  • New mechanical and electrical installations
  • Decorations
  • External works and external fabric repairs
  • AV installations

Works also included the re-ordering of liturgical and other spaces.
