Raynham Hall Estate, Norfolk
Raynham Hall has been the seat of the Townshend family for almost 400 years and is well renowned for its contribution to farming innovation. The house as we see it was started in 1622 and abandoned classic English architectural traditions of the time.

Project Summary

Messenger has been involved in numerous phases of repair at the property. These have included high-end redecoration of state rooms, most recently the Belisarius room.

When undertaking the works we carefully conserved the ornate plaster and timber William Kent ceiling and redecorated all joinery elements within the room. In addition, the wallpaper was reinstated with a bespoke fabric pattern to match the original.

The works also revealed another fascinating piece of the building’s history. During the redecoration of the state rooms, chalk sketches were uncovered which are believed to have been completed by the esteemed Georgian era architect William Kent. The images are likely to have been created as part of mapping out the room design.

These unique discoveries were fully recorded by the Messenger team, with a report developed for the client to retain.
