Project Summary

Having suffered from a significant period of neglect, the buildings at 2-4 Market Place were in a very poor condition. After coming into the Lincolnshire Cooperative’s ownership, plans were put in place to restore and preserve these important buildings.

The ‘Our Market Place’ project includes the conservation and repair of all five buildings, as well as conversion of the site for multiple uses, including retail, café, office, holiday let and community space. It was also important to ensure to prevent any further deterioration of the historic fabric, enabling 2-4 Market Place to re-establish itself as a prominent future within Caistor.

The scope of works being undertaken by Messenger includes:

  • Careful demolition under supervision of an archaeological contractor
  • Mechanical and electrical works
  • General refurbishment
  • Repairs to historic fabric

Throughout the project it has also been important to the client for those local to the area to be engaged with the works. This has included sharing the history of the site and town throughout the project.
