The Messenger Staffs team is delighted to announce that groundworks are now underway for the new regional office in Burntwood, just a stone’s throw from their current premises.
The new building is being perfectly tailored to the team’s needs, offering a unique, fully accessible office space, alongside ample storage for plant and materials.
As a company, Messenger is particularly fortunate to be able to draw upon the expertise of an in-house structural team, who are delivering the substructure design and associated works for the new development.
Last week, we caught up with Chartered Civil Engineer, Jonathan Lee, who gave an insight into the structural works currently progressing on site:
‘Ground investigations identified made ground extending to around 2.0 metres below existing ground level, along with a number of existing services crossing the site. As a result, a piled foundation solution has been selected for the new office development to ensure long-term stability and performance.
Specialist piling equipment has been used to install 150 mm diameter driven piles, which extend between 6 and 8 metres below ground level. These piles are driven until they reach the required resistance to safely support the building above.
A 250 mm thick reinforced concrete slab will then be constructed over the piled foundation system and structurally connected to it, ensuring loads are transferred efficiently into the ground. Additional reinforcement has been incorporated at key column locations to securely anchor the main structural frame of the building.

‘This investment will ensure our new facility is built on a strong foundation for Messenger’s continued regional growth, and the entire team is looking forward to moving into the expanded space we’ve long needed’.
Ian Bird, Regional Director – Messenger
Anticipated completion Autumn 2026.
