With over a decade in the trade under his belt, including plumbing, bricklaying, and running his own building and landscaping business, it’s fair to say Josh knows his way around a construction site. Working across the West Midlands, he picked up hands-on experience and qualifications that set him up for the next big step in his career.
That step? Site management.
“It just felt like the right move,” he says. “I’ve always enjoyed the organising side of the job more than being on the tools. Making sure everything runs smoothly, solving problems – it’s what I’m good at, and it gives me a real sense of satisfaction.”
There was also a personal side to the decision.
“Becoming a parent changes your priorities. I wanted to be more present at home, and moving into management has helped me get that balance.”
Since joining Messenger, no two days have been the same – and Josh wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Every day throws up something different, but I enjoy all of it. There’s loads to learn, and I feel like I’m really growing into the role.”
What’s stood out the most so far?
“I thought I’d end up working for a house-builder, to be honest. I never imagined I’d land a job with a company doing such interesting work. Messenger has opened doors I didn’t even know were there. I’m grateful for everything they’ve given me – and I’m excited to see where it goes next.”

Reflecting on the impact of new team members like Josh, Ian Bird, Regional Director of our Staffs office, shared:
“Josh’s enthusiasm has been clear from day one, and it’s great to see someone so engaged with the role and keen to learn. Having new people like Josh join our company is hugely important – not just for us to bolster our current Site Management teams, but for us to learn and grow as an employer from new perspectives.
The long-term future of the company depends on effectively promoting from within and recruiting likeminded individuals keen to undertake works in this specialist sector of construction.
It’s an ongoing process for building the next generation of management and making sure we have strong people coming through who can carry the baton forward.”
