Featuring the sculpture of the four Evangelists, Langley Cross is the finest of the 23 surviving medieval roadside crosses in Norfolk. Once one of over 12,000 similar monuments erected across England between the 11th and mid-16th centuries, it is now just one of 2,000 that are thought still to survive.
Brief Description of Works:
Messenger was awarded the contract to carry out repairs. These included taking down and reinstating sections of the loose shaft that were moving in the wind, cleaning and applying a protective-coating to the 14th century sculptures and rebuilding badly-weathered parts of the 19th century base. Langley Cross has been removed from the ‘at risk’ register following these repairs.
