Cherry Holt Cottage

Guilden Morden

Cherry Holt Cottage is a Grade II Listed timber frame building. The property is late 17th century, with later alterations and renovation works carried out in the 20th century. The cottage was subject to significant fire damage in June 2011, destroying approximately one third of the original thatched roof structure and the newer roof structure above a more recent extension.

Brief Description of Works:

Messenger was awarded the contract to carry out all necessary repairs to the cottage. The works required the erection of an independent scaffold and temporary roof structure, thus enabling the whole of the remaining thatch to be stripped off, allowing access to the damaged roof. Further works included the replacement of fire damaged timber roof members, plus rethatching and tiling. Internally the plumbing and electrical installations were replaced, along with the kitchen and main bathroom. Areas of fire and water damaged lime plasterwork and floor finishes were renewed and the property was completely re-decorated.
